With  crowded gym season upon us, here are 5 gym etiquette rules to follow in 2014!

  1. Ask for help
    • Not sure how to use a piece of equipment? Ask a staff member or trainer for help. Not only may you be doing the exercise wrong, but you could hurt yourself or break the equipment!
  2. Put equipment back where you found it
    • Don't leave your "toys" out after you're done with them- put back dumbbells, medicine balls, yoga mats, resistance bands, etc
  3. Keep germs at bay
    • Wipe down equipment before and after using to disinfect lingering germs
    • If you're coming down with an illness, exercise outdoors at home.  Germs thrive in gyms- don't bring down others with you!
  4. Don't be a bully
    • Stop with the intimidation factor! Just because someone is in "your spot" in a fitness class or using your favorite machine doesn't give you the right to give them the stink eye!
  5. Be mindful of those waiting
    • When the gym is crowded, keep workouts on cardio machines to 30 minutes or less.  Up your resistance or speed for a higher intensity workout in a shorter amount of time!
